2Gen Manufacturing is a plastic injection molding plant located in the southeast area of Grand Rapids Michigan creating jobs for residents of the 49507 ZIP code.
Kevin Smith is co-owner of 2Gen Manufacturing with his mother, Heidi Smith, and business partner, Lee Ringling.
The company was formed in 2015 as a spinoff business of Wyoming-based 2K Tool — established in 2004 and does design, CNC machining, mold building and repair — and Ringling Plastics. The two companies were partnering on a small number of injection molding projects until it got to the point where 2K Tool owned all of the presses in Ringling’s facility and all of its projects, and so the partners decided to move forward as a new joint venture, 2Gen Manufacturing.
The company was previously located in Zeeland at Ringling’s plant but needed more than the 6,000 square feet of space it had there as it expanded from making automotive parts into ridge vent roofing components and other products for the construction industry.
2Gen’s aim is to continue creating jobs for neighborhood residents, with a mission of bringing more sustainable employment opportunities for neighbors within the 49507 community.
